Dr Stuart Mason - BVSc (Hons) MANZCVS DACT
Registered Specialist Veterinary Reproduction (Small Animal)

Stuart graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1999 with first-class Honors. After graduation, he worked in a mixed, primarily dairy (65%) practice in West Gippsland for two years. Stuart then worked at a clinic in the southeastern suburbs of Melbourne for 22 years, evolving through this time into a Registered Specialist in Veterinary Reproduction (Small Animal). Stuart supports his veterinarians in all facets of Veterinary Medicine, with a special interest in Small Animal Reproduction. In 2005 Stuart learnt to perform transcervical inseminations (TCI) in dogs and has been instrumental in its development within Australia.

Stuart has provided many lectures for both Vets and lay people locally and internationally. Stuart regularly organises education seminars for breeders with Dogs Victoria. Stuart has published many scientific papers and spoken at many veterinary conferences in Australia for the Australian Veterinary Association, the Australian Reproductive Veterinarians, the Centre for Veterinary Education and Vision Australia, and overseas for the Society for Theriogenology and the European Veterinary Society of Small Animal Reproduction (EVSSAR) at their International Symposium of Canine and Feline Reproduction (ISCFR).

Stuart is a current Academic Associate for the University of Melbourne, helping to train new veterinarians. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists Animal Reproduction Chapter. He became a Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in June 2012, subsequent to examination in Animal Reproduction. In August 2012, Stuart successfully completed his examinations with the American College of Theriogenologists to become a Diplomate.  Stuart is a Registered Specialist in Veterinary Reproduction (Small Animal).

Stuart has three children and four pets (Axel, a Pomeranian; Jerry, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel; Mickey, a Birman cat; and George, a Domestic Shorthair cat). Outside of work Stuart enjoys spending time with family and pets, watching his beloved AFL team the Melbourne Demons and watching re-runs of Seinfeld. Stuart will become the sole director of Doncaster Veterinary Hospital from the 25th of March 2024.

  • Dr Michael Walczak

    Dr Michael Walczak B. V.Sc (Hons)

    Owner

    Michael graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1979, then worked in mixed practice in Mildura and Seymour. He returned to Melbourne in 1981 and worked at Monash Vet Clinic which specialised in greyhounds and movement disorders of show dogs. He has been at Doncaster Veterinary Hospital since 1985.

    Michael is a great believer that children benefit from growing up with pets and following on from this, pets become good companions through our entire life. The human/pet bond can be as strong as family ties.

    Michael is married to Debbie with 3 children (Claire, Christine and Mark). They live with the lovable Oscar, a Poodle X Bichon and new addition, Luna the cat. Michael's 'grand'-cat Frank, a Ragdoll, also visits regularly when his daughter Clare is on holidays and loves to beat up Oscar. In his spare time he is a 'tragic' Melbourne AFL supporter, loves good food, wine and conversation, can't get enough time for golf and longs for lazy holidays and seafood at Noosa beach. Michael is a grandfather to 1 with another on the way.

  • Dr Michael Yeung

    Dr Michael Yeung B. Sc, B. V.Sc

    Veterinarian

    Michael is from San Francisco, California. He graduated in 2013 from the University of Melbourne and has joined the DVH team in 2014. Prior to veterinary school, he worked as a Registered Veterinary Technician in the States for over 6 years where he has developed an aptitude in caring for sick patients.

    Mike has a cat called Balvenie (named after the Whisky) and Ruby, a crazy German Shepherd. He is a Cantonese speaking vet and in his free time, he practices Japanese fencing (kendo) and enjoys hiking, playing the guitar and keeping an assortment of freshwater tropical fish.

  • Dr Tanya Cavallin

    Dr Tanya Cavallin B. Sc, B. V.Sc

    Veterinarian

    Tanya grew up a few suburbs away in Templestowe and after graduating from the University of Melbourne in 2017, she moved to Bendigo to work in a mixed practice (a veterinary practice with small and large animals).

    In her spare time, Tanya likes baking, making ice cream and painting as well as playing with her energetic border collie Casey.

  • Dr Emily Chan

    Dr Emily Chan BVSc BAnScMgt GS-Sau

    Emily graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2013. Emily worked in a couple of small animal hospitals in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne before starting with the DVH team in 2023.

    She enjoys all aspects of small animal general practice but particularly enjoys surgery and expanding her surgical skills.

    Emily shares her home with two dogs, three cats, a rabbit and a bird. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and baking, exploring nature, and travelling.

  • Sarah

    Head Veterinary Nurse

    Sarah originally comes from New Zealand and has completed a Certificate II in Animals Studies and a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. She started working at the clinic in September 2020 and has a passion for surgical nursing.

    Sarah loves riding her quarter horse Chaz, spending time with family and travelling Australia. She also has a 1-year-old DSH cat called Olaf.

  • Elonnah

    Senior Veterinary Nurse

    Elonnah loves animals so much that she can’t stop studying them! She studied with Box Hill Tafe in 2013 and graduated with a diploma in animal technology. Now, after completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing she is also completing her Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services with Delta Institute. Elonnah has been employed with Doncaster Veterinary Hospital since the end of 2013 and is one of DVH’s Puppy School instructors.

    In her spare time, Elonnah volunteers at the Healesville Sanctuary in many roles including guiding tours and training the birds. Her animal babies at home include two rabbits, Evee and Smudge, three birds, Mali, Zoey and Rocky, and a cat named Noah.

  • Rachel

    Senior Veterinary Nurse

    Rachel started working as a volunteer in 2019 and is now studying her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing to become a qualified vet nurse.

    Growing up with a number of animals including chickens, birds, fish and rabbits, Rachel always knew she wanted to work with them. When she found out about vet nursing in high school, she knew that was what she was destined to do.

    Rachel loves to read and play tennis, and lives with a bearded dragon lizard called George, an Australian shepherd named Shia, and recently got 2 Pekin ducks Clarence and Daphne.

  • Stacie

    Veterinary Nurse

    Stacie has completed a Certificate III in Animal Studies (specialising in veterinary nursing), Certificate IV in Companion Animals and is currently studying a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. She has always had a love of animals and that passion led her to work at the clinic.

    Stacie keeps herself busy with 3 kids, her husband and her first foster fail (like many of the staff at Doncaster vets) Bill-E, a DSH. She also fosters animals for the RSPCA and likes to raise money for charity - she even completed the Oxfam Trailwalker 100km Walk!

  • Melanie

    Veterinary Nurse

    Melanie started working at the clinic in September 2021 and is currently completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. She previously completed a Certificate III in Captive Animals and was a zookeeper for over 5 years!

    She decided to pursue a career in veterinary nursing to expand her knowledge of animal care and health and to make a difference in the lives of owners and their pets.

    On the weekend you’ll find Melanie spending time with friends and family, reading or exploring Melbourne.
